Hong Kong Events - July 2027

July is the busiest public month of Wan Chai's year. The Hong Kong Book Fair takes over the HKCEC from Wednesday 14 to Tuesday 20 July, Ani-Com and Games follows at the end of the month, and the two together bring the district's biggest queues, fullest restaurants and highest summer hotel rates.

It is also the hottest and wettest stretch of the year, so the Book Fair's air-conditioned halls are a genuine refuge as well as a shopping trip. The month opens with the HKSAR Establishment Day holiday on 1 July. Everything below is a confirmed 2027 date unless the entry says otherwise.

๐Ÿ“š Hong Kong Book Fair โ€” the month's headline event

HKTDC Hong Kong Book Fair (37th edition)

๐Ÿ“… Wednesday 14 - Tuesday 20 July 2027

The 37th edition of Hong Kong's biggest public fair fills the HKCEC for seven days with books, stationery, publishers, author events and the annual seminar series. It is the single largest ticketed public event the HKCEC hosts, and it is Wan Chai's own.

Why go: it is the one week when half the city comes to Wan Chai. Go on a weekday morning if you can โ€” the weekends are shoulder-to-shoulder โ€” and budget for the modest entry ticket and for carrying your haul home.

๐Ÿ“ Location: Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Expo Drive, Wan Chai

๐Ÿ’ต Cost: Ticketed โ€” modest admission

๐Ÿท๏ธ Categories: Fair, Books, Culture, Family

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Status: Confirmed for 14-20 July 2027 (HKTDC).

๐ŸŽฎ Ani-Com and the end-of-July crush

Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong

๐Ÿ“… Late July 2027 โ€” annual event, exact 2027 dates not yet confirmed

Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong is the city's biggest anime, gaming and cosplay fair, held at the HKCEC every year in the last week of July; the 2026 edition ran 24-28 July. The 2027 dates have not been published.

Why go: it is the loudest, youngest crowd of the Wan Chai year โ€” cosplay, tournament stages and queues down the waterfront. If the Book Fair week was too crowded, this one is even more so, and that is the point.

๐Ÿ“ Location: HKCEC, 1 Expo Drive, Wan Chai

๐Ÿ’ต Cost: Ticketed

๐Ÿท๏ธ Categories: Fair, Anime, Gaming, Pop Culture

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Status: Annual event โ€” 2027 dates not yet confirmed. Check hkcec.com.

๐ŸŽช Summer at the harbourfront

SummerFest@Wan Chai

๐Ÿ“… Through July 2027 โ€” annual event, 2027 programme not yet confirmed

The Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space runs its outdoor summer festival of pop-ups, food stalls and evening programming on the water. In 2026 the season ran from 29 May to 4 October; the 2027 programme has not been published.

Why go: an easy, free evening to add to a Book Fair trip โ€” walk the five minutes from the HKCEC to the harbourfront after the halls close.

๐Ÿ“ Location: Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space, 3 Hung Hing Road, Wan Chai

๐Ÿ’ต Cost: Free entry (individual events may be ticketed)

๐Ÿท๏ธ Categories: Festival, Outdoors, Family

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Status: Annual event โ€” 2027 dates not confirmed. Check wches.com.hk.

๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฐ HKSAR Establishment Day

Hong Kong SAR Establishment Day

๐Ÿ“… Thursday 1 July 2027

A general holiday marking the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, with flag-raising ceremonies and civic events across the city.

Why go: the district's Golden Bauhinia Square ceremony is the local version of the day's observances; the rest of the city takes the holiday quietly.

๐Ÿ“ Location: Hong Kong-wide; Golden Bauhinia Square, Wan Chai

๐Ÿ’ต Cost: Free

๐Ÿท๏ธ Categories: Public Holiday, Ceremony

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Status: Confirmed โ€” 1 July 2027 is a general holiday.

๐Ÿงญ Practical notes for July

  • Getting there: the HKCEC is a covered walk from Wan Chai MTR station on the Island Line โ€” the air-conditioned route matters in July. See getting there.
  • Timing: the Book Fair (14-20 July) is busiest at the weekend and after 6pm on weekdays; Ani-Com at the end of the month is the biggest single crowd.
  • Book ahead: these are the two weeks Wan Chai hotels sell out first โ€” book as soon as your dates are fixed. See the 2027 hotel price guide.
  • Beat the heat: do the heritage trail and Tai Yuen Street in the early morning, and use the fair halls and malls in the middle of the day.
  • Free alternatives: the waterfront promenade, the flag-raising ceremony and the Heritage Trail cost nothing.
