Hong Kong Events - March 2027

March is Wan Chai's art month, and the busiest single week of the district's spring. Art Basel Hong Kong takes over the HKCEC from Thursday 25 to Saturday 27 March, and the whole neighbourhood โ€” hotels, restaurants, the harbourfront โ€” rearranges itself around the fair and the satellite shows that come with it.

The month opens with the trade side of the same building: the HKTDC's jewellery fairs run in the first eight days, and the Easter long weekend closes the month from 26 to 29 March. Expect peak hotel rates in the Art Basel week and book the heritage walks and restaurants early.

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Art Basel and Art March

Art Basel Hong Kong 2027

๐Ÿ“… Thursday 25 - Saturday 27 March 2027

The region's flagship contemporary art fair fills the HKCEC with hundreds of galleries from Asia and the rest of the world. It is the anchor of Art March in Hong Kong, and it is Wan Chai's biggest public event of the year.

Why go: it is the one week when the world's art trade is in the district; even the satellite exhibitions and gallery openings around it are worth a day. Buy tickets in advance โ€” the fair sells timed slots and the first day is the trade preview.

๐Ÿ“ Location: Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Expo Drive, Wan Chai

๐Ÿ’ต Cost: Ticketed โ€” timed admission

๐Ÿท๏ธ Categories: Art, Fair, Culture

HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show

๐Ÿ“… Thursday 4 - Monday 8 March 2027

The HKTDC's five-day international jewellery show at the HKCEC, one of the largest trade fairs of its kind in the world. Trade visitors with credentials only.

Why go: for the trade it is the diamond and fine-jewellery week of the year; for everyone else it explains why the district's hotels are full in the first week of March and why the HKCEC waterfront is busy at breakfast time.

๐Ÿ“ Location: HKCEC, 1 Expo Drive, Wan Chai

๐Ÿ’ต Cost: Trade only โ€” registered buyers

๐Ÿท๏ธ Categories: Trade Fair, Jewellery, Business

๐Ÿ“… Tuesday 2 - Saturday 6 March 2027

The loose stones and pearls half of the trade week, held concurrently at AsiaWorld-Expo out at Chek Lap Kok rather than at the HKCEC.

Why go: these are two separate venues for one trade week; if you are going to either, check which hall your appointment is in before you set off.

๐Ÿ“ Location: AsiaWorld-Expo, Chek Lap Kok (Tung Chung Line / Airport Express)

๐Ÿ’ต Cost: Trade only โ€” registered buyers

โœ๏ธ Easter long weekend

Easter holidays in Wan Chai

๐Ÿ“… Friday 26 - Monday 29 March 2027

The Easter long weekend runs straight after Art Basel closes, turning the last week of March into a four-day break. The HKCEC empties, the malls and restaurants fill, and the heritage trail is at its busiest of the month.

Why go: if the art week is too crowded for you, the Easter weekend gives you the same district at a calmer pace, with the temple and market streets wide open.

๐Ÿ“ Location: Hong Kong-wide; Wan Chai

๐Ÿ’ต Cost: Free

๐Ÿท๏ธ Categories: Public Holiday, Family

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Status: Confirmed โ€” Easter holidays fall 26-29 March 2027.

๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿซ Courses, walks and the New Year campaign's tail

  • Hong Kong Arts Centre courses โ€” Wan Chai's arts centre runs a rolling programme of Chinese calligraphy, seal carving and painting courses from its building on Harbour Road: hkas.edu.hk.
  • Wan Chai heritage and old-town walks โ€” Walk Hong Kong (walkhongkong.com) and Big Foot Tour (bigfoottour.com) run private and scheduled Hong Kong Island walks; the route on the Heritage Trail guide is free and self-guided.
  • Cantonese dim sum class with a wet-market tour โ€” HK New Oriental Culinary Art, Monday to Friday, HK$1,080 a head (minimum two): hknoc.com.hk.

  • Golden Bauhinia Square flag-raising โ€” daily at about 08:00, with the enhanced ceremony on 1 March. Free.

๐Ÿงญ Practical notes for March

  • Getting there: the HKCEC is a short covered walk from Wan Chai MTR station on the Island Line. For AsiaWorld-Expo take the Tung Chung Line or Airport Express. See getting there.
  • Timing: Art Basel week (25-27 March) and the jewellery week (2-8 March) are the two peaks; book restaurants in the Wan Chai quarter well ahead for those evenings.
  • Book ahead: this is the month Wan Chai hotel rates spike. See the 2027 hotel price guide and compare districts in the Wan Chai vs Central vs Sheung Wan comparison.
  • Free alternatives: the Heritage Trail, the harbourfront promenade, the Golden Bauhinia Square ceremony and Tai Yuen Street all cost nothing even in art week.
