Hong Kong Events - October 2027
October is the best month of the year to be in Wan Chai on foot. The heat and rain are gone, the skies clear, and the month opens with National Day on Friday 1 October â the one day the district's own Golden Bauhinia Square takes centre stage, with the enhanced flag-raising ceremony in the morning and the harbour lit up in the evening.
Chung Yeung Festival follows on Friday 8 October, and the two holidays give October an unusually gentle rhythm. It is also the month to walk the Heritage Trail properly: cool, bright and dry. Everything below is a confirmed 2027 date unless the entry says otherwise.
đđ° National Day
National Day and the enhanced flag-raising at Golden Bauhinia Square
đ Friday 1 October 2027 â ceremony in the morning, about 08:00
National Day is a general holiday, and Wan Chai's Golden Bauhinia Square hosts the district's most formal ceremony of the year, with an enhanced flag-raising and civic observances.
Why go: this is the one day the square is the focal point of the city's calendar, and it is on Wan Chai's own waterfront â arrive early for a place at the railing.
đ Location: Golden Bauhinia Square, Wan Chai waterfront
đĩ Cost: Free
đˇī¸ Categories: Public Holiday, Ceremony
đī¸ Status: Confirmed â National Day is Friday 1 October 2027; see Golden Bauhinia Square.
National Day fireworks over Victoria Harbour
đ Expected Friday 1 October 2027, about 20:00 â annual event, 2027 display not yet confirmed
The National Day fireworks are an annual fixture over Victoria Harbour, and the Wan Chai waterfront is directly opposite the launch barges â the Golden Bauhinia Square promenade is one of the prime free viewpoints in the city.
Why go: like the New Year display, this is the rare night when the whole district stands on its own waterfront; come an hour early for a spot on the promenade.
đ Location: Victoria Harbour; Wan Chai waterfront promenade
đĩ Cost: Free to view
đˇī¸ Categories: Fireworks, Public Holiday, Free
đī¸ Status: Annual event â the 2027 display had not been gazetted when this page was written. Watch Discover Hong Kong.
đ Chung Yeung Festival
Chung Yeung Festival
đ Friday 8 October 2027
The Chung Yeung Festival, the autumn grave-sweeping day, is a general holiday. Families visit cemeteries and hillside graves, and the traditional custom of climbing a hill on the day makes it a walking holiday too.
Why go: the second Friday holiday of the month, and the perfect cue to walk the Wan Chai Heritage Trail in the best weather of the year.
đ Location: Hong Kong-wide; Wan Chai
đĩ Cost: Free
đˇī¸ Categories: Public Holiday, Traditional
đī¸ Status: Confirmed â Chung Yeung falls on Friday 8 October 2027.
đĒ The tail of the harbourfront season
SummerFest@Wan Chai and the promenade
đ Through early October 2027 â annual event, 2027 programme not yet confirmed
The Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space's outdoor season normally wraps up in the first days of October; in 2026 the last day was 4 October. The 2027 programme and closing date have not been published, but the promenade itself stays the district's best walk all month.
Why go: October evenings on the water are the mildest of the year, and the walk from Golden Bauhinia Square to the HKCEC is the district at its best.
đ Location: Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space, 3 Hung Hing Road; the waterfront promenade
đĩ Cost: Free entry (individual events may be ticketed)
đˇī¸ Categories: Outdoors, Family, Free
đī¸ Status: Annual event â 2027 dates not confirmed. Check wches.com.hk.
Tai Yuen Street and the market quarter
đ Daily
The open-air toy and street market on Tai Yuen Street, and the surrounding market streets, trade daily through October.
Why go: the market is at its most pleasant as the weather cools, and it is the quickest way to see the district's everyday side just a few streets back from the HKCEC.
đ Location: Tai Yuen Street, Wan Chai â see the market guide
đĩ Cost: Free to browse
đˇī¸ Categories: Market, Shopping
đī¸ Status: Recurring, open daily.
